The layout and materials were carefully considered to frame sweeping water views while creating a relaxed, inviting atmosphere. The result is a coastal retreat that supports everyday family life as comfortably as it does larger gatherings, blending casual enjoyment with effortless entertaining.

Duxbury, MA | This Duxbury harborside property began with a tired pool and surrounding landscape that no longer reflected the beauty of its coastal setting or supported the way the homeowners wanted to entertain outdoors. The existing concrete pool and decking were upgraded with 4-inch-thick brush-hammered granite coping and bluestone decking, materials chosen for both durability and their natural harmony with the tones of the nearby shoreline. A spa was integrated into the poolscape as a striking focal point, adding visual interest and extending the ways the space can be enjoyed.
The surrounding outdoor living areas were organized to make entertaining feel easy and inclusive. A built-in grill and outdoor bar near the main terrace create a natural hub for hosting, while shade-tolerant Green Giant arborvitae provide privacy from neighboring properties without compromising the open, coastal character of the yard. Granite pillars at the pool entrances add structure and a sense of arrival, reinforcing the strength and permanence of the design.
One of the project’s most important challenges was preserving unobstructed harbor views while still meeting pool fencing requirements. This was resolved through a carefully designed combination of a low stone wall and fence topper set downslope, allowing the pool and dining terrace to remain visually open to the water. The result is a polished outdoor living environment shaped for entertaining, comfort, and a lasting connection to its harborside setting.
